Latest News

So I had training for Russia and ILP last week. It was wonderful and I have a great group. We are have made it a goal to go to the Kiev, Helsinki, and Stockholm Temples while over there.

I've felt a strong impression that I need to make sure we do family home evening (for those of us who are LDS) every Monday night while we are over there as well. This I think is to help us remain strong and faithful.

So now for the great news. I had my final itinerary emailed to me yesterday. I am now leaving on August 30th instead of the 31st. I also am no longer going through Denver, but through Chicago. YAY!

So there it is. Have a nice day.

Only a little while longer

So it's been a while since I last updated my blog about everything that's been going on with the whole Russia thing.

It's now July 15th and I have completed almost everything that I need to so. ILP is paid off thank you to a secret someone who donated $1,000 to me and ILP to help me be able to go. This was clear back in April/ May and if it wasn't for this person I'm not sure I would've been able to do it.

I have gotten all of my bills sorted out so that way I won't have any problems (hopefully) with being called to court or anything like that due to them not receiving payments from me... Seeing as I'll be half way around the world from them (literally too).

All I have left to do is to go to my training next week down in Provo, buy teaching and personal supplies for the trip, work my tail end off so that way I will have some sort of spending money while there, talk to my bank about my being in Russia for four months, and put my phone on hold for the four months I'm gone too.

Wow that seems like a lot, but it really isn't.

Oh and I will be having a going away BBQ on the 14th of August. YAY!

That's it for now. Until next time.

Too far away!

Oh Russia why do you have to be another four months and one week away? It seems so unfair. I'm struggling with paying you. At this point I will have no spending money while I'm there either. But I can't wait to be there and away from here. This horrible, no good, very bad place.

I guess you could say that I'm sort of using you to run away from my life here. If only it is just shy of four months. Four months there means four months not here.

It means four months of not being reminded on a daily basis of what a failure I am in everything I do. Four months of doing service and working with children in a small quiet environment. Four months of feeling good about myself.

WHY? Why do I have to wait so long for my resprite from my life?

Just thought I would share that.

Russia Dates

So I got the most wonderful news yesterday. I found out my tentative dates for St. Petersburg, Russia.

I will be leaving on August 23, 2010 and returning on December 17, 2010. Or roughly anyways. These dates won't get set in stone until July sometime. But still the thought of leaving in just a little over 5 months is exhilarating to think about.

I still have to make 4 more payments after Monday. I need to register with the embassy, get my physical, and finalize my travel documents. Oh and I need to do training which I will be doing in July. So not much left to do at all.

Update on Oakcrest.

So on Monday of this week I started feeling as if I didn't get the job at Oakcrest. I just had this deep foreboding sense that they decided not to take me even though I'm totally qualified. It's stuck with me over the last few days.

Well, last night while I was tutoring my first student I got the call. You know that terrible call saying that you didn't get the job, but we would love to hear from you next year if you are still interested.

Why, is my question. You denied me this year most likely because I have two tattoos and because I'm too old. Seeing as they like their girls to be 19 and have only one year of college behind them. What's going to change next year that's going to allow you to decide that I'm worthy enough to work for you?

Don't get me wrong on this. I totally understand the part about the tattoos. It's stupid, but I understand it. So yeah. I think it was a good opportunity and I would've made a great camp counselor. But the Lord clearly has other plans for me for this summer.

Well there you have it.

Passports and Translation Books

So this week in the land of getting ready for Russia this fall we've had a few things happen.

1. I got my passport and passport card. YAY! This means that I have the official travel documents for the states. I still need to get my visa stuff taken care of, but ILP will be doing it for me. So that makes things 100 times easier for me. I do still have to register with the embassy, but I can't do that until April at the earliest.

2. I ordered my Russian to English translation and phrase book on Monday. Guess what book I got yesterday! Yes that's right I got my Russian to English translation book. I guess that means that I better start studying. Russian is one of the hardest languages to learn and I should know at least a tiny little bit before I go.

I also got Pride and Prejudice. I'm looking into getting some more of the classics so I have some books to read while in Russia. So any recommendations are totally welcome on that part.

On Tuesday next I will be headed down to Provo to turn in my passport and my next payment of $370 to ILP. That means that I only have $1918 of the $2588 left to pay off. So four more months of $370 and one month of $438. All of that will include the initial amount of $2520 plus the $68 for insurance while I'm over in Russia.

On other news... I interviewed with Oakcrest. It was weird because interview was in front of a panel of women. However, I do feel good about it. I keep praying that I'll get the job. Other than that all I can do is not worry.

If I get the job at Oakcrest I might keep the job at Pizza Hut for a month of so of the job. This is so I can pay off ILP, but the last month I can just play. I'll have ILP paid off by July 9th of this year.

Anyways, until next time.

What I want in a guy

So I've been doing some thinking lately. I gave an ultimatum to a guy and that honestly was the hardest thing I've ever done. I knew what the answer would be before I gave the ultimatum, but never the less it still hurt when he said no.

I mean I'm totally not ready. I want to go and experience Russia and all that it has to offer. I want to continue working on my degree. I want to look into doing some humanitarian work. That sounds completely well... crazy. Especially because I've had my heart set on teaching for at least 6 years maybe longer.

I'm tired of living life for everybody, but me. I think that humanitarian work would be awesome. I also totally plan on doing ILP again as a head teacher (especially because I will get to go for free if I do it as a head teacher).

Anyway, here is my list of what I want in a guy:
A man who holds a current temple recommend so we can go to baptisms for the dead while dating (he doesn't necessarily have to be endowed).
A man who wants to get married in the temple
A man who won’t jeopardize getting married in the temple
A man who respects me
A man who is a worthy priesthood holder
A man who will read scriptures morning and night with me
A man who will say morning and evening prayers with me
A man who is in tune with the spirit so he knows when to ask his family if they would like a priesthood blessing
A man who enjoys showing his true feelings for me
A man who wants to share me with the world
A man who loves to be with me even in public
A man who loves me for who and what I am

Wish me luck in what I want.

Oh here is a picture of the Russian Ballet (which I totally plan on going to while I'm there).

A site to see.

This is one of the many sites I'll get to see in St. Petersburg. Man I can't wait.

I don't remember if I said how long I'll be there, but I'll be gone for at least four months. Who knows, I may end up like my cousin and staying in Europe. There are so many things I want to see and do there.

Oh well... I have to come back to the states part of the stipulations on going with the program that I'm going with.

St. Petersburg, Russia

I have decided that I'm going to start blogging now about St. Petersburg, Russia. That way everybody can keep update with what is going on with it.

As some of you may know I started looking into a semester abroad program called International Language Program (from here on out to be known as ILP) last year around Thanksgiving. I prayed about it and thought at great length what I would do. After all the praying and thinking I decided to go ahead and apply for ILP. I had my interview on December 23, 2009. I found out that I had gotten accepted on December 30, 2009.

I found out on Monday of this week so January 25, 2010 that I will be going to St. Petersburg, Russia this fall. It all seems so crazy, but it's going to be so much fun.

For those of you who don't know what ILP is it is a program that sends volunteers over to foreign countries to teach English to children. It is completely a nonprofit organization so the money that I have to put into it is all tax deductible. That's not even the best part though. The best part is that I can go for a second time for FREE as a head teacher.

How amazing is this opportunity?
